Windows 10: Screen black after Windows fix tried reinstalling Windows 11

Hi My screen was giving me issues just working at the top - but worked perfectly fine when I disabled graphic driver and used Basic Windows Adapter,was working perfectly fone with external screen plugged in a using - could not get my head around - so must be software / driver issue.??My belief is that there is conflict with drivers and screen not working 100% - I think there was a combination.The screen was working just at the top before - but if I plugged in a HDMI cable and used external was ok. Have USB c and HDMI both working.The screen would not work if HDMI not plugged in - and even no

I read a report a little while ago that said the black screens were nothing to do with updates but due to a malicious program (it hit more than just windows 7 users - vista, xp and 2000 were also prone to the black startup screen of death if infected). My windows 7 install is fully up-to-date and i've never had the black startup screen.

Just run some decent anti virus and you should be safe (i suggest microsoft security essentails since it's free and pretty decent). When you've installed an anti-virus i'd suggest doing a full scen to be sure there's nothing there.

 

Black Screen AMD Driver Crash in Windows 11 Regardless of Fixes

Since switching to Windows 11 I have dealt with an unpredictable black screen crash when gaming. It appears to only happen when the GPU is under load, but it doesn't necessarily correspond with GPU use intensity, I've tested stability with over an hour running FurMark and sometimes I can game for several hours before it crashes, other times it goes only half an hour.

I am running Windows 11 with a Radeon AMD 5700XT which has had black screen issues in the past, but which is listed as supposedly being stable now. The black screen sometimes (but not always) results in the error and "fix" listed here:

which requires a reinstall of the AMD radeon software and drivers after the crash (but only when this error shows up, sometimes the hard reset doesn't result in the error and doesn't require a driver reinstall). One of the first things I did was try their recommended fix of turning off the automatic windows update, and the issue is unaffected.

I have tried both stable and optional AMD software/driver installations, I have fully replaced my power supply, checked connections and cleaned the GPU, used a driver cleaning utility before reinstalling drivers, reset the AMD driver shader cache, disabled the various sync and resolution settings in the AMD software, and ensured the stability of the GPU settings with stress testing. I've tried adding the TdrDelay value to the registry as is listed in some lists of black screen fixes, and it still happens. If it must be said yes, of course I'm running the most updated build of windows.

I can only conclude this is some bug with Windows 11 and my GPU/drivers and I'm one of a small segment of people affected.
