Screen displays 'no signal detected', mouse and keyboard not working

    Hi everyone.

Recently I've run into a problem that I couldn't find solution to anywhere or any kind of answer. A few days ago there was a windows update and until then, my computer was working fine. But since the update, my computer "crashed" twice. Now, I put air quotes on crashed because it's not really what I would call it. I was listening to music, surfing on internet and working on something in Word when all out of sudden my screen showed 'no signal detected' message and I thought that maybe it'll last only for few seconds because I thought my graphic driver was updating because I saw that I had a new update from NVIDIA. But then few seconds passed and then I realized that neither my mouse or keyboard were working so I decided to restart my computer thinking maybe it just froze (which still didn't make sense to me). I tried turning off my computer by pressing power button for few seconds but nothing happened. Then I tried both restart and power button again but to no avail and I had to turn it off by turning off the power switch. When I turned computer back on, everything was fine as if nothing happened, as if I turned it off completely normally. I couldn't find any crash reports or anything but since everything was working fine I just let it go, thinking it was one-time thing. Except it wasn't and it happened again today. Same thing. Computer works just fine, like nothing happened.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? PSU or motherboard perhaps? Or is it something entirely else?

EDIT: It turned out to be both PSU and motherboard. PSU slightly fried the motherboard and that's why it was acting out. I'd say case closed.

    :)

There may be drivers missing for some of the hardware. Unplugging the wireless keyboard/mouse adapter and reconnecting it may cause it to be detected and a driver installed. You may have to power off and restart first. If you can get the wireless keyboard
and mouse to work, you should then be able to get the correct display adapter driver to get the touch screen working.

Hi Chelsea. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

This is believed to be caused by the recent Cumulative Update for Version 1709:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/407458...

I would try uninstalling it at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History.

You might also be able to get back before it via System Restore:
    http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

Then if it reinstalls and causes the same problems, uninstall it again and block it using Method Two here:

    https://www.askvg.com/fixing-windows-10-automat...

If necessary you can perform these operations in Safe Mode:
    https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

But if you can't get into Safe Mode try Advanced Startup Options by whichever method works here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

If no other method works it may be necessary to create and Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...
. Boot mode uses different drivers so mouse and keyboard should work.

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key:
    https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered. If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

After it loads, on second screen, choose Repair Your Computer, then Advanced Troubleshoot Options, then System Restore.

If System Restore fails access the Command Prompt to try Option Five here to unlock F8 Advanced Boot Options in Windows 10 to reach Safe Modes:

    https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

  4. Screen displays 'no signal detected', mouse and keyboard not working

    Hi novaforce

Myself, I doubt this is hardware related, everything was working, then you see and update and it goes south. Of course I could be wrong.

I would look in your your update history for driver updates, any and all. You said nVidia just updated. I would start there with rolling back driver.

Have a restore point and for good measure an Image of your OS just in case. If you don't have a tool may I recommend Macrium Reflect. Free, recommended and reliable.
