Windows 10: Screen resolution not correctly detected by games

All of my games cannot detect full screen resolution options correctly but get -1x-1.Recently all of my games cannot correctly detect my screen resolution. I have a 2560x1440 monitor and it's set to native in Windows. However, if my games run in exclusive full screen mode, they cannot detect any resolution option but get -1x-1, which causes all of my games inoperable in full screen and some cannot launch due to resolution check/limits.I'm sure this happens without any update/change to my graphic driver.I have tried several methods, but none of them works:- Rebooting system and monitor- Disconn

Games unable to detect screen resolution options

Hi! I'm having an unusual problem I can't find any documentation for. Several of my games (but not all) have become unplayable. Near as I've been able to diagnose, the issue seems to be that they are either not able to query the screen resolution options,
or the data being returned is invalid.

Games I've been able to replicate with:

• Mechwarior online: The default windowed configuration loads, but when you go into the settings menu, the screen resolution options are blank. There is nothing there to select from. Attempting to save ANY settings change will write the blank screen resolution
  value into the config and crash the game.
• Homeworld Deserts of Kharak: Game starts to load. Colors flash on the screen, and the music acts like it has loaded the splash screen, but you can't see anything. Near as I can tell it trying to render to a 0x0px, or 1x1px screen resolution.

Having more than one failure confirmed this is not a game specific issue.

System is a Lenovo Y500 Lapotop with a GT 750M graphics card (just the single one, not the second optional one).

Things I've tried:

• Reinstalling the games (no change)
• Installing video drivers direct from Nvidia (no change)
• Removing and re-detecting video and monitor components

The one weird thing I found when digging around in settings is that under the display adapter it lists resolution/refresh options for both 59 and 60 HZ at every resolution. However, I can't access the 59 HZ setting through the Nvidia app. No idea if this
is related to the issue, but it is the only other thing I've found that seems out of place.

Screen Resolution too big

Firstly, try to install all the available Windows Updates and check if it fixes the issue.

I suggest you to change the screen resolution settings and check if it fixes the issue. Follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key and type Change Screen Resolution and click on the option listed.
• Under resolution try changing the resolution settings.

Also try to install the latest drivers from the manufacturer website and check.

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• Is the issue particular to that game or other games also?

This issue could occur if the your playing a game at a different resolution than the desktop resolution.

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps:

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode from Manufacturer's website, if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

• Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the
  Compatibility tab.
• Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
  
• Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
  OK.
• Try installing the driver and check.
