Windows 10: Screen Saver and Power Saving Features Stopped working after XBox game was installed

This problem has occurred on both an older Windows 10 machine about 5-6 years old, Intel core i5, 8GB RAM and a new Windows 11 machine less than 6 mo. old, Intel Core i7, 14GB RAM. After installing the XBox Gaming app and installed Lego Star Wars: The Complete Skywalker Saga, which then needed a Gaming Service App to be installed the screen saver nor power saving features activated after I was done playing the game. I looked into it and saw there was a Gaming Mode switch in settings that i thought would prevent the screen saver and power features from activating, so I turned it off. T

Please stop. Or, at the very least, read the entire thread before responding. What you are suggesting...

• ... will not work. The same issue preventing the power options from kicking in impact any screen saver settings as well. Windows is incorrectly reading input from USB game controllers connected to the system, and registering these as activity in a way
  that Windows 7/8/8.1 did not. And...
• ... does not achieve the same results. Powering off the monitor is not simply about preventing people from seeing what you were working on. This is a power saving utility. With a screen saver running, you are still wasting the same amount of power that
  you would without the screen saver running.

So, not only is your "suggestion", such as it is, unhelpful, but it is also completely inaccurate.

Regarding your concern, we suggest setting up power options first before setting the screen saver. You may perform these steps:

• In the search box on the task bar, type Power Options,
  and then select Power Options.
  
• Click Change Plan Settings.
• Change the settings to Never.
• Select Save changes.
• Set your screen saver.

Screen Saver Not Working Because... But Why?

Win 10, latest build

Okay so my screen saver suddenly stopped kicking in. Neither would my monitor shut off according to the power plan. I searched Google (aka Skynet) and found a cr*p load of "solutions." None of them worked.

One day I disconnected my Retro Power Sega Genesis game pad and then, suddenly, to my surprise, my screen saver started!

But, being a curious sort, why did disconnecting this particular game pad initiate the timer countdown? I've had Xbox One and PS4 controllers always connected via USB and never encountered a screen saver failure.

Is there any way I can keep my controller plugged in?

I do have Nvidia Shadow Play, but in settings, I keep it switched off, if this helps.
