Screen turns black for a second then returns; other issues related?

    Hi all,

My laptop screen has been turning black for no longer than a second every so often and I'm concerned with the integrity of the laptop.

With no stimulus, the screen just turns black with a few streaks of color. I'm not sure why this is occurring. My laptop has been acting strange in other ways as well as my wifi driver a few days ago randomly stopped working until I inactivated and reactivated the driver. About a month ago my laptop had some issue with my ssd I believe and I thought it was the end of the road, but windows repair managed to fix it. Is there a correlation between all these things occurring lately and is there a way to fix it?

    Specs:

    Windows 10 home 64x

    Intel i7-6700 HQ

    8 GB RAM

    NVIDIA GTX 950M

    256 GB SSD

    4k screen

*some keyboard keys fried about a year ago due to moisture damage, so I turned off the keyboard and using a bluetooth keyboard.

    Thanks all!

    :)

    Returning Windows to Second Screen

    Hello Kate,

Let's try to isolate the issue and see what is preventing you from using Windows to second screen. Kindly provide us the following information:

    • When you turned on your computer, does it give you an extended display for both monitor screen and your laptop?
    • Is your monitor screen already connected to your laptop before turning it on?
    • What cable are you using to connect your second monitor to your laptop?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Issue with black screen, dual display, ATI Integrated GPU

    Hi,

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to go to device manager and disable the display drivers, check whether the issue persists or not.

    • Press Windows + X keys and click
      Device manager.
    • Click to expand Display adapters, right click the second adapter and click
      Disable.
    • Restart the computer and check whether the issue persists or not.
    • Repeat the same steps to disable the first display adapter and check if it helps.

If you find the issue is with anyone of the display adapters then, I suggest you to update the display drivers from the manufactures website for Windows 10 and check if it helps.

Method 2: I suggest you to follow the steps form the below article for
“Black Screen” issues and check if it helps.
