    Hi, over the last few days this is happening with increasing frequency. I'll be in the middle of using my computer actively typing or using the mouse and my screen will suddenly go black. When I press on the keyboard or try to wiggle the mouse after this happens, a green image of a battery with my laptop's current charge will show up in the middle of the screen, but then disappear again. After this my computer either automatically reboots, or the black screen persists and I have to manually reboot it. It happened a few times in the last couple of days, but then today it happened close to 10

    Black rectangle shows up middle of screen- mouse doesnt work within it

    Since my last post, the box has reappeared but Photos was not in the list. Today, I closed one of two entries called "system" and it went away. Btw, fwiw, Winlister mentions several programs are open that arent open and havent been opened since last reboot, like calculator.

    Black rectangle shows up middle of screen- mouse doesnt work within it

    For months now I have been getting a black rectangle in the middle of my screen. Sometimes, depending on the window that's up, it doesn't show as anything - it's transparent, but it's still there. On other windows, it shows up as a rectangular hole in the window that you can see through to the desktop. Regardless of how it manifests, the mouse has no effect within the rectangle. I have to reboot for it to go away. It never goes away on its own. I do some gaming and thought it was related to opening Steam and the game - either PUBG or Ring of Elysium, but it's not. It happened today after a restart and I hadn't done any gaming. I just can't pin it to any activity I perform on the PC. I'll post pictures.

    The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

    Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
