Windows 10: SCROLL BAR difficulty

I would like to return to the way scroll bars looked and behaved. Earlier versions of windows had a little lever icon that slid up and down. Now scrolls are long colored areas. I'm never sure what to grab with the mouse; the lighter color or the darker color. Also the contrast between the two colors is slight. Even worse they disappear and fold up into a crease, whenever I let it go. I have to go searching all over each time I want to scroll. If I try to hold the scroll open it's like balancing on a hill with a standard clutch, but instead of stalling or rolling downhill, I get bounced to the top or bottom of the scroll bar, when I don't hold the pressure steady.

Please don't refer me to contrast and color settings, I dubbed around so much with that, I made the user interface almost unusable. Trying to restore default settings brought me to this forum. Somehow I managed to find a setting with help from a patient windows help line attendant to stop the scroll bar from collapsing. It's called "fading," and if you type in "adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" in the large central search box, in the general setting area, you will come across a list of settings. Good luck figuring out which boxes to click or unclick. As far as controlling the contrast or color of the scroll, I was told it was not an option. (big sigh!)

I did try "classic shell," an addon program that makes Windows 10 look like the old style Windows. It looks cool on the surface, but it still returns you to the same dumb Windows 10 dialog routines.

Anyone out there know of any other way to customize Windows 10 to control the user interface? I don't want to customize for vanity reasons, I am a senior who needs to adjust the interface so I can function.

TPU review scroll bar

I was wondering if there was any specific reason the buttons to scroll down the list of reviews was stuck in the bottom left-hand corner? Whenever I want to read reviews, I always have to move my cursor and aim it at a small arrow that scrolls the reviews... I'd suggest that instead of making the arrows small and in a corner, it would be better placed to the sides of the review bar.

Scroll bar on main menu scrolls straight to last item


When I click on the scroll bar of the main windows menu (bottom left button) and start to scroll down, the scrolling then continues automatically to the last item on the list so that I can't access the others. It is as if gravity has taken charge! There is no problem with scroll bars in web windows or in Excel. I think the same problem was happening in Word last week but it is not today. I have tried following various recommended fixes including a clean boot, running Windows defender scan and switching off some mouse functions. I am no computer expert so it is possible I have perforemd all these actions correctly. Nothing has solved the problem. I've also tried a different mouse.
Any suggestions as to what is the cause of the problem and how I might fix it would be very much appreciated. The graphics card is fairly ancient: could this be the problem?
