Windows 10: Sculpt ergonomic mouse suddenly scroll does not work. Less then a year old

Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse purchased less then a year ago with keyboard. The scroll suddenly no longer works. I have restarted the computer, disconnected it, changed the batteries, powered on and off, cleaned the scroll. Nothing is working.

Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse cannot scroll anymore!

I bought Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse over a year and a half. A week ago, the scroll function of my Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse decided end its service. All other functions (left-right click, Windows button) are working properly. I changed the batteries, uninstall mouse in device manager, update the driver as recommended in some forum but the scroll function is still not working. I also tried the mouse in another laptop and the scroll function did not work either. It looks like a hardware problem.

Does anyone know the root cause?

 

New Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse

My previous Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse has the rubber on the side coming off. Purchased a new mouse, same kind. Now the new mouse works fine but now the Sculpt Ergonomic keyboard is not working. Will the new ergonomic mouse work with my 'old'
ergonomic keyboard? If so, what do I need to do?

Can I replace the Mouse from the Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop (Part #: L5V-00001) as it is broken

The scroll wheel on the mouse from my Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop (Part #: L5V-00001) has packed up. If I purchase a Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse

(Part #: L6V-00001)

1. will the new mouse work with the old reciever?
2. will the old keyboard work with the new reciever?
3. can I use the old reciever with the old keyboard and the new recieve with the new mouse at the same time?
4. do i have to buy a whole new set?
