Windows 10: SD card not detected unless inserted before boot

I have a common issue with my SD card where the card is not detected if I insert it while Windows is running. If I insert the card before booting up, then the card is recognized. The card works as expected with other operating systems. Version 20H2

Update: If you are not sure how to go about locating updated drivers for your card reader, see if you can gather the info below. I'll do my best to see if I can find updated drivers.

Open Device Manager and locate the card. It may show up as a "memory technology device" as it does in the screenshot below.



Right-click that device and choose Properties. Go to the details tab. In the properties box, choose "Hardware Ids" as in the screenshot below.

Grab a screenshot of this page or post the information that you see here (The name of the device and the values shown) as highlighted in the below screenshot.



Finally, go to the Driver tab and provide the information available there. I'm especially interested in the current driver version.

My Lumia 635 is not detecting SD card

Hi,

You may try the following steps:

• Try to remove the SD card and insert it again, make sure it's seated well without using too much force.
• If it still does not recognize the SD card, you may try to connect your SD card to PC via a card reader and format.
• Try using a different SD card and check if your Lumia 635 will recognize it.
