Windows 10: SD card not showing-lenovo laptop with windows 10

Hello, all of a sudden I can no longer download pictures from the SD card from my camera, normally I just plug the card into the slot at the side of the computer and instructions appear on screen and I download the contents to Pictures.

Now there is no response at all when I plug the card in, can anyone help please? I've tried searching for 'SD card reader' but with no results...

The SD card had previous mpeg files stored from an earlier computer

The card now shows only the earlier stored mpeg video, and not very recently filmed vodeos

I don't want to format the SD card for fear of losing the earlier files.

The recent mpeg shows up with all the files if I leave the card in my video camera (Sony)

your PC has not been tested/approved for Win 10 by Lenovo.

Drivers are to Win 8.1 latest as you know.

Some PCs will run Win 10 despite that, but particularly with laptops, even if that is so, you can run into heat management problems with low level AHCI driver incompatibility.

Otherwise: Now I never recommend- nor does this forum in general- the use of driver scanning programs. However, I have found in exceptional cases this sometimes helps. So I suggest you try DriverMax (2 free drivers a day). No guarantees.

 

SD card failure

I would need to ask few questions so I can isolate your concern properly. Kindly answer the following:

• Did you get a specific error message?
• What are the troubleshooting steps you have done so far?
• What's the current build of your computer? Press Windows key + R and then type winver.
• Did you try to run a full system scan using your anti-virus? Can you tell us the result?
• Does your SD card has a write protection?

Meanwhile, you may try these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. Open Settings> Update & Security> Troubleshoot> Hardware and Devices> Run the troubleshooter.

Step 2: Check SD Card in Disk Management.

1. Open Disk Management.
2. Your SD card will appear as a removable disk.
3. Check if it has a drive letter.
4. If it does not show anything, right click the SD card and then select “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.
5. Click “Add” and select a drive letter, then click “OK”.

Step 3: Update SD card driver.

1. Open Device manager.
2. Find your SD card and right click it.
3. Select Properties.
4. Click the driver tab and then select Update Driver.

Note: You may need to use a keyboard and mouse to connect to your laptop to perform the said steps if it does not allow on tablet mode.
