Windows 10: SD slot missing

I Have a Dell Inspirion 3000 series laptop. I know OLD. The original hard drive recently failed. Purchased a new hard drive with Windows 10 loaded. The laptop now cannot see the SD slot. Can you help?

Thanks for that suggestion. Diskpart only sees one disk, the SSD. When I first received the SD card on Monday, it was working, but I did have some initial issues getting the system to recognize the card. I used the SD card to store an image of the system's SSD. - - - Updated - - -

Apparently, you are correct. I gave the slot a couple of shots of electronics compressed gas duster, and the system started to recognize the SD card. So, I cleaned the slot with 99% pure, anhydrous isopropyl alcohol followed by compressed gas and my Meco Eleverde Compressed Air Duster. The blow job seems to have resolved the issue.

 

I cannot open my SD card from the SD slot since I downloaded the new Windows 10.

We understand your concern in this regard.

• Are you talking about Windows 10 anniversary update?
• How about connecting other external USB devices?
• Is this issue specific to the SD card?
• Did you try connecting the SD card on different computer?

Most of the problems arises with the incompatible drivers. Suggest you to check and install all latest drivers for Windows 10 from Manufacturer's website. You can search them using your device model number. Most probably
this should fix the issue.

Coming to the SD card issue, suggest you to check connecting it on different computer to see if it works fine there. Sometimes problem with the SD card or SD slot causes this kind of behavior. This might give us the clue on the
root cause of the issue.

Put the SD card into the laptop, open CMD, type "diskpart" (no quotations) and hit enter. Click yes on the prompt that shows up. You should then see

Now type "list disk". You may see several disks show up here, Disk 0, Disk 1, etc. Do you see a Disk with a capacity that looks correct to your SD? (In this case near 1000GB, might be less) When the replacement arrives, do give us an update. It is worth noting some laptops cannot read high capacity SD cards, though, with a high end machine as yours if it was unable to it would be surprising.
