Windows 10: Seagate 4TB external HDD is not detected in Windows

    Unable to detect Seagate 4TB External HDD

    Hi

    I have been trying to plug and unplug the Seagate 4TB External HDD with my Mac Pro which run Windows and was unable to detect my HDD. what is the cause of the problem and how can I recover it? Anyone can help or advice what should I do? Thanks

    Windows Backup can't find my seagate 4TB drive

    Current build is Windows 10 Home version 1703. Seagate 4tb is formatted in ntfs multiple times now. I'm not getting error messages. Windows does find my other external disk Western Digital hdd 500gb in the back-up center but not the 4tb Seagate.

    When I use right mouse button and then click automatic play on the Seagate 4 tb there is no "configure station for back-up" button but for the Western Digital 500gb it does appear in automatic play...

    Hi Dreamer, thanks for your question. I'm Graeme, a Microsoft Community expert and fellow user.

    Sometimes errors like this occur where File Explorer doesn't recognize the drive, but you may be able to assign a drive letter to your HDD. Follow these steps:

    - Go into Disk Management by clicking Start and typing "Disk Management". Choose the first result.

    - Hopefully your HDD appears here, and if it does, right-click it and click Change Drive Letter and Path(s).

    - After setting the drive letter to an unused letter of your choice, it should show up in File Explorer.

    Otherwise, see if you can view the drive in Device Manager and reinstall the drivers:

    - Press Windows Key+X and choose Device Manager.

    - Find your drive in the list.

    - Right-click it and choose Update Driver.

    - If that doesn't work, try uninstalling it and then scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.

    If it doesn't work, please let me know and I'll see what else we can try!
