Windows 10: seagate drive there but not there

win 10 pro
attached a seagate barracude st3200826as drive (200gb) with my external usb adaptor
drive spins up and gives the new device beep but is not recognized as a drive
just a usb device, this would be a fat32 drive, its used and has been wiped
do I need possibly need different drivers?
I use this external usb connector all the time with ide and sata drives and the
disks come up all the time with my next available drive letter
when drives are recognized there is another (3rd) entry in the device panel for the drive

However the bios boot order had not changed, so this is not relevant.

 

how do I uninstall McPhee and install Defender on Windows 10

Try this: If in Windows Disk Management your HDD is shown as "Online", delete the volumes and format it as NTFS. Assign drive letters if necessary.

 

The drive may just not have a drive letter assigned.
As stated, Press the Windows key+X choose Disk Management.
In the Disk Management window in the lower pane, is your drive showing up? If it says it is healthy, or if the drive is using the same drive letter as another drive, right click it and choose Change Drive Letter or Paths. Choose a drive letter that is not being used.
If the drives file system says it is Unallocated Space, then it has lost it's Table of Contents.
If the Disk# (ie) Disk1, Disk2 etc says the Drive is Not initialized, then your USB controller is not providing enough power, be sure there is a power adapter attached to the drive, and the USB cable is plugged into the Back USB port (desktop) and not the front.
To recover your files, use the free TestDisk program, I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to

 

Both folks are correct from where I sit. I've seen drive letter collisions many times and they are a pain. Most of the time causing "offline" drive conditions. If there's not important data on it, re-partition and do a full format since it's an older drive just to be sure.
