Windows 10: Search Button, Windows button wont work and corrupted files. Please help

I'm not sure if this is the correct category but I'm very desperate for help. I own an HP Pavilion with Windows 10. Its nearly brand new. It was running in the middle of the night making a ton of noise so I made the fatal mistake of half-sleepingly getting up and turning it off. I know, that is a cardinal sin. It ending up getting stuck on "Please wait" the next time I booted it up so I had to go into advanced startup and reboot the computer I believe from a recovery point.


I didn't notice anything wrong for a while until I was watching class videos in fullscreen, and my taskbar was still showing up. I tried just troubleshooting this issue and found there's an option in settings to make the taskbar only show up when you hover the cursor over it, so I tried to access my settings only to find the search bar on the taskbar, as well as the windows button on my taskbar and keyboard, do not work at all. I tried accessing my settings a number of ways to no avail at all. I was trying to maybe update the computer and fix it but there's no way for me to get to that point.


I have gone through a lot of troubleshooting but there's so many issues I can't even execute all of the solutions. For example, someone suggested running powershell via task manager to fix the problem. When I try to do that, the powershell opens for less than a second and then closes itself. I ran an sfc scan that said it found corrupted files it could not fix, and they are all Windows files and I have no clue how to fix them. One of them specifically is "HolographicExtensions.dll". I made a really bad mistake and I have no clue what to do now. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Corrupted file RAR

If the archive has been created using WinRAR, why don't you try WinRAR itself? It has a built-in repair feature for repairing corrupted archive (ZIP as well as RAR). Follow the steps given below:

• Open WinRAR application in your system.
• Now click on File tab > Open or simply press Ctrl+O.
• A small window "Find Archive" will pop up. Locate the corrupt RAR archive from your system directory and select it.
• Now click Open button.
• Click Tools tab > Repair archive or simply press Alt+R.
• Again a small window "Repairing File name.rar" will pop up.
• Now click Browse to select a location to save the repaired archive.
• Check the box "Treat the corrupt archive as RAR" and click OK.
• WinRAR will start repairing of corrupt RAR archive. Once it gets completed click Close.

I hope the above steps will help you repair the corrupted RAR archive.

Windows 10 START and SEARCH buttons don't work

For some reason both my main Windows button and Search buttons don't work. Other buttons on the Task Bar work as usual. Right click on either button gives a white-on-black context menu. Anyone have a suggestion, please?

 

Taskbar buttons not working

Hi,

To resolve your concern regarding the Start button, follow the steps below:

• Go to This PC.
  
• Click on Local Disk (C.
• Select Windows.
• Click on System32.
• Right click on cmd, and then Run as administrator.
• On the Command Prompt box, type sfc/ scannow, and then press
  Enter.

7. Check the result that you will get.

If the result is Found corrupt files and repair successfully, test your Windows and Search button again.

If the result is Found corrupt files but unable to repair, follow the steps below:

• Open Command Prompt as an Administrator.
• At the flashing prompt, type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth then press Enter.
• Once it says Operation successful, try your Windows and Search button again.

If the result is No integrity violation, follow the steps below:

• Open Command Prompt as an Administrator.
• Type powershell, and then press Enter.
• Wait until you see PS C:\windows\system32>, at the flashing prompt type this command
  Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} then press Enter.
• If you see any error in red, ignore it.
• Once done, try your Windows and Search button.
