Windows 10: Search function not working whilst HDMI extended screen mode is on

Self-explanatory quiery. Whenever I press on search button on my taskbar, the search pop-up windows doesn't show up.

One possible reason why the HDMI sound does not work is due to the conflicts with the playback settings. For us to help you make the HDMI sound to work, we suggest that you answer the following questions for further research:

• Have you made any recent changes to your computer?
• What is the current build and version of your Windows 10?
• Have you tried to download and install the most updated sound and display driver of your computer?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you perform the steps on this
article as our initial troubleshooting and see if there will be any changes on the HDMI sound.

I would suggest you to connect with another HDMI cable and check if the issue persists. This is to confirm if the issue is with the system or with the HDMI cable.

If the issue is not with the cable then, suggest you to install the driver for the display in compatibility mode by following the steps below:

• Download the setup files for the driver and save it on your local disk.
• Right click on the setup file of the driver and select
  “Properties”.
• Select “Compatibility” Tab.
• Place a check mark next to“Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.
• Let the driver install and then check thefunctionality.

Please reply to a few questions to understand the issue better:

• 
  Are you facing similar issue as the OP?
  
• 
  Are you not able to find “view all” in the troubleshooter window?
  
• 
  If you are facing the similar issue as the OP, did you try the suggestion posted
  emTrebe’s?
  

If you do not find “view all”, follow the steps below to run the
Search and Indexing troubleshooter and check if the issue is resolved.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
  troubleshooter and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on System and security
  from the right side panel of the screen.
  
• 
  Select Search and Indexing,
  click on Advanced option and check Apply repairs automatically
  option.
  
• 
  Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the troubleshooting to complete.
  
• 
  After the troubleshooting is complete, close the window and check if the changes are effective.
  

If haven’t tried, follow the suggestion posted by emTrebe on
May 11, 2016 and check if it helps in resolving the issue.
