Windows 10: Search not workin gin Win10 - how to fix

Win7 could put in any word and Search would find the file it was in - lovely. Now Win10 doesn't do this - I have to search from the Documents folder - wastes a lot of time. Any way to fix this?

Many times Search won't fine a Word file unless I put a full stop afterwards. So 'Letter' not found but 'Letter.' found.

Any way to fix this?

MSN zone multiplayer games.

When I sign on and request "spades" or "gin" - the screen comes up, but an overlay black screen "loading" never completes. I have been able to play before, but now will not load. is it a "setting" problem. I'd really like to fix, but don't know how.

 

Hello, it depends which search you're talking about- where you're searching from.
Cortana's search on 'My Stuff' appears to be limited to what's indexed.

Your first sentence appears to refer to the content of files, rather than the title, so that puzzles me- reminding me of tools like Copernic and Google Desktop.

Basically you are better off using a 3rd party tool. I dislike Cortana's search (e.g. the search bar on the taskbar) and Windows own search is way too inflexible and slow and cumbersome to set up.

A couple of freeware options:
These build and maintain an index of files and folders- the initial indexing is pretty quick.
After that searches are 'find as you type' - extremely fast.

Everything by Voidtools.
(current, newer GUI)

I use
Locate32
(Older, also support limited search inside a text file)

Both support lots of search formats and parameters.


Note: Classic Shell's start menu offers a search bar you may feel more comfortable with, at least for the start menu if you have lots of entries- including the Universal apps if you wish.

Also has options for file and file content searching

Yes, Classic Shell is superb but it uses WIn10 Search - which is really terrible.

I just can't understand how Microsoft could ruin the most perfect Search feature and am probably going back to Win7, this is the one thing I miss the most that made my work so easy and quick. I could find any file in seconds by title or content - never let me down.

Win10 takes the view 'So you want to do some work? Lets see how we can make this difficult and complicated'.

Try the tools I mentioned. I just use the search bar in Classic Shell to launch programs.
I ignore Cortana and the awful Win 10 start menu.
