  1. searchapp.exe keeps Nvidia GPU awake tanking battery on laptop

    Hi all,

I've recently noticed that my Acer Nitro 5 with a GTX1650 will suddenly have terrible battery life, despite having no appreciable load. I've figured out that windows search (searchapp.exe) will start running on the GPU randomly. It prevents the dedicated GPU from sleeping, keeping it at idle power which is about 12W.

I've tried using the nvidia control panel to manualy force that particular application to use the integrated intel gpu, but it keeps popping up on the nvidia one within 20-40 minutes (its very inconsistent). The same applies to the windows built in application GPU manager.

Killing it in task manager solves it temporarilly until it pops up again, but thats also a PITA as the only way to know its back is looking at the power draw in GPU-Z

Any ideas what I can do?

  2. laptop battery wont charge after latest update

    1. Shutdown your laptop.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

    4. Power on the laptop

    5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

    6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s okay if you only have 1).

    7. Shutdown the laptop.

    8. Insert the battery.

    9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.

    Step 2

    1. Shutdown the laptop.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

    4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.

Windows 10 Won't use NVIDIA GPU, Uses Integrated Graphics Instead! (LAPTOP)

I have a similar (same) problem with my ASUS laptop.

    My Laptop: ASUS F550L laptop

    SPECS:

    Windows: Windows 10

    Processor: Intel Core i7-4500MQ CPU @ 1.8GHz

    RAM: 8 GB

System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.

    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M

    Integrated GPU: ?

    DirectX Version: ?

I have tried the steps listed above but they did not resolve the problem.

I have attempted to download an updated driver but my driver was reported as 'up to date'.

    What do I do now?

Multiple GPU laptop not using NVIDIA card

I am using a HP Spectre x360 15 Inch with 2 grapihcs cards:

    • Intel UHD Graphics 630
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design

Sadly the NVIDIA card only wakes up when disabling the Intel GPU, but this makes it impossible to control the laptop's brightness.

For example the application AutoCAD which asks quite a lot of GPU power. In the NVIDIA control panel AutoCAD is set to High-performance, as well as in Windows. The laptop is on High performance in battery mode and is charging.

Is there a solution for this to work? For example when charging using the NVIDIA card when plugged out use Intel card for power saving, (or even just using NVIDIA card as standard on high performance without the need to disable the Intel one).

I have confirmed that the Intel UHD takes over by looking into the Task Manager; the NVIDEA stays at 0%:
