Windows 10: Searches fail. Can this be corrected?

Is there anything one can do to make Win 10 find stuff correctly?
I had this idea Search wasn't working properly and now have confirmed it.
Here's what I do, open a folder on the desktop and I can see the files. I click the Search box at top left of screen and type something (from a file I can see). Incidentally do you press Return or not, after that? Sometimes it starts searching, other times does nothing.

Windows then tells me "No items match your search.".
The only way I can find the files is to search from another computer (running XP) where it shows all files as expected. Isn't this a bit crazy? I spent weeks restoring some stuff I thought I'd lost (only to find it by chance later). So a fix would be very welcome.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

• Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
• Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
• Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

• Go to Settings.
• Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
• Select add someone else on this PC.
• Enter a user name and hit next.
• Click on Finish.
• Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

Using Marketplace in WM7 - no predictive search or corrections

Hi, I have noticed that when using Marketplace and performing a search within the Zune player, if you dont spell an artist/song name exactly, then Zune will not come up with any results. This is very poor user experience, as when using Bing, it does
offer suggestions. For instance, searching Meetloaf finds nothing (does not even offer suggestions/corrections), but obviously meatloaf does.

• Pull-up the Services window again.
• Look for Windows Search, right-click on it and then choose Start.
