Windows 10: Second Hard Drive and DVD/CD RW Drive DO NOT Appear in File Explorer

DELL Inspiron 3847Windows 7 Professional SP1I don't know how long ago this issue started as I use this computer sporadically for software development work most of which is done in one of several Oracle VirtualBox virtual machines installed on this Win 7 Pro computer. The Host Win 7 computer as well as the Vbox virtual machines appear to be working fine.In addition to the computer's primary hard drive C:\ Western Digital 1 GB SCSI Disk Device, a second Toshiba 1 GB SCSI Disc Device used for backups and a DVD/CD-RW Optical device are also installed. DVD RW Drive Icon in File Explorer

Is there a settings option to have the DVD RW Drive letter appear in File Explorer when there is no DVD in the tray?

CD/DVD RW Drive not recognised

Hi all.

I have an Acer laptop with built in DVD/CD RW drive, running Win 10

For some reason, the laptop has stopped recognising it.

When I put a disc in it whirs, spins and clicks as usual as if it were reading it normally, then stops.

Have gone through all the usual checks and I note that its not even listed under devices, in fact, there is no option for CD/DVD drives even listed to expand under

I have even gone as far as to return the laptop to factory settings and still no luck.

Can anyone suggest a fix (in laymans terms LOL)

 

DVD Drive Assignment in File Explorer

If I open File Explorer with no media in my DVD Drive, under This Computer I see entries for my OSC), CD DriveF), and External USBG).

When I insert media to the DVD Drive, a new line appears. Immediately under OSC) the next line is now DVD RW DriveD). The line after that is still CD DriveF). I don't have 2 Optical Drives on the PC. only the DVD RW. So why does Windows show both
D: and F: when there is media in the optical drive and only F: when there is no media? Does Windows 10 think that F: is a second optical drive that doesn't exist? How do I fix it to show only D: in File Explorer, and how do I figure out
what Windows 10 thinks the F: drive is?
