  2. Second local user account is turning on on boot and using my computer's resources

    Good morning,

I have two local accounts with administrator rights created on my computer.

The first one - belongs to me - let's call it Account X
The second one of my brother's - let's call it Account Y

When I open account X and log into it, everything is fine and the task manager is saying that it's only account running.

But if I close my computer, boot it again and log into account Y, the task manager is showing that both X and Y accounts are running.

Then when I restart the computer and open Y account only Y is running. When I close my computer and open X one more time X and Y is running.

Because of that the other account is using my computer's resources, so I need to manually disconnect or log out this account with the task manager, after my brother have used the computer.

It was also an issue on my previous computer.

I would be grateful if anybody found the solution to this problem.

    Thank you in advance,
    Hubert

  3. Second local user account is turning on on boot and using my computer's resources

    Hello Hubert M. YS.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you want to disable the original user after switching accounts.

After shutting down, all user operations will be stopped. If you switch accounts without shutting down, the previous account will remain running, which is normal.

If you have different needs, I suggest you provide feedback:

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

Second local user account is turning on on boot and using my computer's resources

Local Acct user and MS account user - sync them or merge them

If the local account is the one where you have most of your personal data, this is how I would do it:

    • Sign in to your Microsoft account
    • Copy all documents, pictures and other personal data from Microsoft account's user folders to corresponding folders in user Public (contents of MS account Documents folder to Public Documents folder and so on)
    • Sign out from Microsoft account
Notice that above steps are only required if Microsoft account user folders contain data you want to keep. If its user folders are empty or do not contain anything worth saving, you can skip the above steps. Continue from below.

    • Sign in to the local account
    • Delete the Microsoft account (Option One in this tutorial)
    • Switch your local account to a Microsoft account (tutorial)
    • Copy the data backed up from old Microsoft account to Public folders to new Microsoft account in corresponding folders

That's it. Using the Public folders as temporary storage you will have none whatsoever file owner / permission issues later on.
