Second Screen Display goes randomly black without disconnect sound notice on 60 Hz refresh rate

I am running Windows 10 and it is up to date. Drivers are supposedly up to date according to Device Manager. I have a 2nd display Dell 17", it all of a sudden started blacking out randomly 2 to 30 seconds continuously. Using Display Settings, I found that changing the 2nd screen Refresh Rate to <whatever> Hz "Interlaced" fixed the problem. However, the screen now "flickers" at a very fast rate. Do I actually need to delete drivers, get a new monitor, or punt?

    :)

  2. Refresh rate Problem

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Screen refresh rate is the rate at which the data displayed on screen is refreshed; it may be an image or some text document. Most of the users would like to set it to a higher rate but this also depends on the capacity of graphic
card and monitors. If the refresh rate is slow, the images on the display looks as flickering to the user eye and makes it uncomfortable to work.

Nowadays the latest monitors available in market will have minimum 60 Hz of refresh rate and it is very good option to set it to 70 Hz if you your monitor is compatible. Normally a high performance or quality monitors can reach
120 Hz of refresh rate. So I would suggest you to set your monitor refresh rate as higher as possible, below given steps describes how to access this feature on your Windows 8.1/10 PC.

    • The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
    • If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
    • Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.
I would, as of now, suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's support website and install the latest display and chipset drivers available for the latest operating system (currently it would be 8.1 in the list).

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

4k display flickering on HP z24s monitor on 60 Hz with DP1.2

About a year and half ago I bought a new 4k monitor: HP Z24s.
    The very first batch.

And there has been a constant disappointment. I decided to not return the display to the shop, because everything else was perfect, i.e.: colors, overall quality, price, etc.

The monitor is connected to Radeon R9 390 8G Sapphire Nitro adapter with 3 meters DisplayPort 1.2 cable.

The problem only appears when I try to set the refresh rate to 60 Hz.

On 30 Hz everything works as expected.

Sometimes, the problem is solved when I set the refresh to 30 Hz, restart
Windows 10 LTSB, and then set the refresh rate back to 60 Hz again.

The cable isn't the problem -- I tested it using another display on 60 Hz and everything worked fine. I also tried the cable using different R9 graphics cards (all from different manufacturers). The problem also persists when using another cable altogether.

I starts when I play a full-screen game, or sometimes at seemingly random times with no obvious cause..

Also, I updated monitor driver, and some time it looked good, but with every second AMD driver update I get this problem off and back.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or have a similar experience with this display?

P.S.: On Linux Mint 17..18, everything works like a charm -- no flickering on 60 Hz, both with opensource and proprietary drivers. However, on Mint 18 the are opensource only. And Windows, there is no difference if I set the color depth for HP monitor to 8-bit or 10-bit per color.
So bandwidth is not the issue probably.

Second Screen Display goes randomly black without disconnect sound notice on 60 Hz refresh rate

"input signal out of range, change to 1600 x 1050 @ 60 HZ"

    Hi,

Here are the reasons why you're getting the "input signal out of range, change to 1600 x 1050 @ 60 HZ" error:

    • The monitor cannot accommodate the set refresh rate (e.g. 60Hz).
    • Outdated graphics card driver

For us to effectively assist you with this, we'd like to know the following:

    • Which build and version of Windows 10 are you running on your device?
    • What is the maximum possible refresh rate can be set for your monitor (refer to monitor's manual)?
    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue?

We're looking forward to your reply.
