    I recently had a BSOD issue on my Dell XPS laptop. I attempted to repair corrupted system files and refreshing windows installation a number of times which didn't help. I managed to create a windows recovery disk on a USB stick.

    The laptop has two hard drives. Windows installation has always been on C: drive disk 0, a 240GB SSD. I used the secondary d: drive disk 1, a 500GB conventional hard drive for data storage. Apart from OneDrive and Download folders, this disk didn't have any folders directly used by or connected to windows or other apps.

    I had installed and reinstalled Windows versions 7, 8 and 10 on this laptop a number of times before, without any problem. I must say that I used freshly created windows installation media all the time.

    This is the first time ever I used a windows recovery disk to repair the installation which went on very well. However, at the end of the process, I came to know that the data on my secondary d: drive had all disappeared, replaced by 1. an empty d: partition 100MB, 2. an f: partition 464GB with $Windows.~BT, Program Files, Users and Windows folders, and 3. a g: partition 899MB with a Recovery folder.

    I tried a number of data recovery applications to recover my data without any luck. Could any one suggest the solution.

    Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

    Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

    Steps to confirm issue:

    • Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
    • Secondary drive not visible in device manager
    • Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

    Steps to replicate issue:

    • Installing 1909 update

    Steps to resolve issue:

    • Uninstall 1909 update

    Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

    Internal secondary hard drive not recognised

    After fitting SSD (C: drive) to my Win10 machine I connected the old hard drive as a secondary storage drive.

    Win10 does not "see" it!
    But Belarc Adviser "sees" the hard drive!

    How to force Win 10 to recognise the secondary drive? Simple steps please for a non-techie.
