    Secondary hard drives keep vanishing from file explorer


    Hi all. I'm having a big problem with my secondary hard drives disappearing from file explorer.


    They can be seen in disk management and by the bios. Initilizing them from disk management fails to do anything.


    I am able to use the partition recovery feature on AOMEI partition assistant which restores them to file explorer until I reboot my PC where they just vanish again.


    Things I've tried:


    Reinstalling Windows

    Changing sata cables

    Uninstalling and reinstalling storage controllers

    Changing assigned drive letters

    Fixing MBR on each drive

    Reformatting each drive from scratch.

    Ran CHKDSK on each drive. No errors.



    My specs:


    AMD Ryzen 3700X

    AORUS elite x570 Mobo

    16gb AORUS 3200mhz RAM Running at 3000mhz

    PNY 250GB NVME

    1TB WD HDD

    120GB Sandisk SSD

    Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

    Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

    Steps to confirm issue:

    • Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
    • Secondary drive not visible in device manager
    • Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

    Steps to replicate issue:

    • Installing 1909 update

    Steps to resolve issue:

    • Uninstall 1909 update

    Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

    External Hard Drive

    Hi John,

    We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
    The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

    Secondary hard drives keep vanishing from file explorer

    Internal secondary hard drive not recognised

    After fitting SSD (C: drive) to my Win10 machine I connected the old hard drive as a secondary storage drive.

    Win10 does not "see" it!
    But Belarc Adviser "sees" the hard drive!

    How to force Win 10 to recognise the secondary drive? Simple steps please for a non-techie.
