  1. Secure boot has apparently locked me out of editing any firmware settings...

I hope this isn't a silly post. (Windows still works fine, I just can't change my settings anymore). So I accidentally enabled secure boot. Now, I cannot change any BIOS settings or even access the UEFI firmware settings (the screen just goes black when it restarts). Everytime I start the computer, I cannot press f2 to access any BIOS settings anymore. I decided to do a reset keeping my files and the screen still goes black after clicking UEFI Firmware Settings on Advanced Startup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; I have an Alienware Aurora R7. Is there any way to change back to UEFI without secure boot?

Windows 8 Secure Boot: Designed to Lock Out Linux?

    from the article:
    translation:
so if an oem manufacturer wants their firmware to enable secure boot with windows, it will be controlled and mandated by microsoft.

in order to allow secured boot, they will need to follow msofts rules. since the signed os bit is part of UEFI anyway, i'm not sure what rules microsoft will impose, but this is fancy speak trying to hide the fact that they WILL mandate and control firmwares that enable secured boot for windows.

not saying that does or doesn't make sense, they just deliberately tried to hide that point.

Secure Boot and UEFI Firmware updates?

If laptop is so old that it came with Windows 7, a firmware update is highly unlikely. Updating bios has nothing to do with secure boot anyway.

Secure Boot and UEFI Firmware updates?

The laptop I have is still with the Windows 7 logo sticker on it and now I am running Windows 10 on it.
So, as I now recall, I had to change the BIOS settings to use only UEFI and then now I have enabled Secure Boot.

So what do you suggest in case I need a firmware update?
Should I disable Secure Boot before doing the firmware updates?
