Windows 10: SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR after installing VirtualBox

I had installed VirtualBox and was running Ubuntu on it. As soon as I closed the virtual machine, I was hit with the BSOD with stop code: SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR.I was tweaking the RAM and core usage on it for a few hours. In the end when I had assigned it 4 cores out of 12 and 3.5 gb of ram out of 8gb, in the Task Manager it was showing around 40% CPU usage which was occasionally spiking to 100% and 97% RAM usage. I had also enabled 3d acceleration and installed guest additions. Before finally closing the VM, I had installed gnome software.The BSOD is showing now for about an hour with 0% c

Sun VirtualBox

Been there and done that. Followed through enabling the 3D acceleration and as told i hit the "Install Guest Addition" to install the drivers in the guest operating system, after that i was told to reboot the VirtualBox and came to the blue windows XP shutdown screen... It was on that screen for more then 30mins and so i force a shutdown on the original Win7 OS to et rid of the VirtualBox OS shutdown screen. Rebooted and tested VirtualBox with the game and got the same error message as shown in my first post.

EDIT: Gone through all the steps till i came to rebooting the VirtualBox OS. After the system coming up normally, i checked if the 3D acceleration is enabled by running dxdiag. Here is what i get...





Need advise to fix 3D acceleration so i can go on. Thank you so much!

 

VirtualBox problems anyone?

Anyone else having issues getting VirtualBox to run on this release? (regardless of whether VM/Hypervisor parts are installed or not)
Pre-this release it was running perfectly fine. After the update, it wouldn't run (same VirtualBox version as before). I've removed it, re-installed it, and did so with a myriad of different settings in Hyper-V and VM as well as BIOS settings for hardware VM support. I even wiped and did a full clean install of this release. Seems it won't run without secure boot / UEFI enabled - that's the only difference between releases. My next step is to wipe and re-enable UEFI/Secure boot. Anyone have any possible suggestions or input before I start the wonderful and magical and oh-so-much-fun re-install process? *twitch* Please? *twitchtwitch*

 

Installing a Virtual Machine in Windows 10

Step #1 is to decide which virtual machine software you wish to install.

The three most popular choices are:

• VirtualBox (from Oracle)
• VMWare Workstation Player (from VMWare); and
• Hyper-V (from Microsoft)

Once you've made your choice you can find detailed, illustrated instructions for installing each one on the internet.

As a personal suggestion: You might find it easier to use either VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation Player. Hyper-V is more complicated to setup.

Between VirtualBox and VMWare, I think you'll find VirtualBox more user-friendly, and it has the advantage of allowing you to create checkpoints - backups of your virtual machine - whereas to do that in VMWare you'll need to upgrade to their (expensive!)
paid version.
