Windows 10: Security: Definition update KB2267602 preventing Calibre from starting

Hello,

I was running Calibre just fine. Then there was an Security Definition update Jan 8 and Jan 9; now it just hangs in the background on the splash screen. I'm not 100% sure if this is the problem but I believe the most recent Definition update is blocking Calibre from starting up completely. How do I get the Calibre application running?


I have rebooted a couple of times. Calibre launches but it hangs in the background. For a long time it was at 0% activity but then it did go up to 25% activity. However the application never came up.


In Virus and Threat Protection settings, Controlled Folder Access is off. I also added "calibre.exe" to the Exclude list.

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.239.1678.0)

I have tried several times to install the Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.239.1678.0) and it will not update. Suggestions? Anyone else having the same issue?

When I run Windows Update I receive the following message concerning Windows Defender:





And when I try Windows Defender itself, I get the following:





The latest definition version installed is 1.245.410.0. Can anyone suggest what might be at fault here?
