Windows 10: Security Essentials "Connection failed"

Discus and support Security Essentials "Connection failed" in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; I run Microsoft Security Essentials under Windows 7 The issue is once I add a 2nd NIC, I get a connection failed while "installing" definition...     Security Essentials "Connection failed"


    I run Microsoft Security Essentials under Windows 7


    The issue is once I add a 2nd NIC, I get a connection failed while "installing" definition updates from MSSE


    I think this is the 'key' because it "downloads" just fine. just cannot install, then the error "connection failed"... So I think its a bogus error, hinting you do NOT have internet connection, when in fact it's not true.. Plus, why would it download if it doesn't have access?


    The question I have is what actually causes this to fail. ? I tried disconnecting 2nd NIC,, even physically removing It, but it still doesn't make a different..


    Can anyone confirm this works with more than 1 Nic?


    Apart from this, PING's and internet works no problem.. so. its isolated to the software in question.


    See attached.


    Its also not Firewall issue, because nothing has changed other than inserting 2nd adapter. No HOSTS file changes or anything

    Windows 10 Windows Defender versus Microsoft Security Essentials

    Hi Bryan,

    Microsoft Security Essentials was upgraded to Windows defender and it was a default security software from Windows 8. You cannot have both as they are one.

    Since you get this annoying popup at the startup i suggest you to disable any Microsoft Security Essentials entries in Startup tab.

    • Open the Task manager. by pressing Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
    • click on Startup tab
    • Right click on Microsoft Security Essentials entry and click on Disable.

    Restart the computer and check if that helps.
