    Security of my PC: a scam using Microsoft I have not come across before


    I have just had a phone call on my home phone purporting to be from 'Microsoft Reading' phone back 0344 600 2400. They can see that my computer is at risk from files that I have downloaded and I could lose all my files. All I have to do is approve them linking direct to my computer and they can sort it for me. I naturally declined what seemed an obvious scam. I then went to inform Microsoft about the scam and on searching 'Microsoft Reading' for a contact number found the first site I came across was 'Ask Microsoft support now' at www.justanswer.co.uk. In short here I had contact with a lady on a chat line who asked me a few simply but not compromising questions and put me through to an expert adviser who would help - at a price of £26 provided I paid a deposit: I was presented with a credit card screen and logged off amazed at the lengths people will go to get money from you.


    I the hope that others will not be taken in.

    in short, this most likely a scam designed to get her login credentials. Have your friend look at this thread at bleepingcomputer.com
