    Security - Safety Scanner


    When I run my Safety Scanner, during the process. it states it has found several "files infected". However, when it is complete, it says it "and no viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software were detected." I am confused - if files were infected, shouldn't it quarantine them, remove them and/or tell me it has taken those actions? Thank you.

    Microsoft safety scanner finds no virus?

    Hello Anxious,

    I am Jaspreet Singh.

    Microsoft Scanner works in steps.

    So at first stage it will detect what may be an infected file and it will add that to a list. This is the number you see when you see the scanner progressing. These are not actual infections, just suspicious files.

    Once the scan is done the safety scanner will match the suspected files with the most recent database of threats and then tell you the actual infections on your system. If the last number is 0 it means no actual infection was found.

    Update Issue Safety Scanner

    If you are using Windows Defender, you won't need Safety Scanner, as Windows Defender contains all malwares which are in Safety Scanner list and it has additional protection like cloud-protection, just make sure it is update and run a full system scan with
    it.

    Do you have access to those files which has been detected with ESET?

    Could you post back the list of malware?
