    Security Update problems


    After Microsoft Windows Security KB3198586 Update, several applications do not work - displaying "it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect" In addition, the E-Mail, Web Browser, and Photo Viewer defaults require resetting. Is there any kind of fix for this?

    Can I turn OFF automatic updates?

    After the security update to windows on Dec 14th, my taskbar, edge, and startup are either slow or will not start, any help will be appreciated.

    2nd question: answered numerous times in the forum.

    It depends whether you don't want ANY updates, or are concerned about unscheduled restarts.

    WinAero's Tweaker offers options under 'Windows Update Settings" and another option to control unscheduled restarts. Also to set ethernet connections as metered, one trick to stop updates downloading. Likewise for Wifi.

    Note: if you use Defender, that by default relies on Windows update. Without that you could set up a scheduled task to update it yourself.
