    This doesn't make sense.
We know the NIC and cable work, because the minute you get back to v1607, you get online.

Can you try the network troubleshooter now?

    Problems found

There might be a problem with the driver for the Ethernet adapter

    Try these repairs as administrator

    Not fixed

That's what happens when I run the troubleshooter

    Something else I found:

Alright tried the first suggestion of hitting diagnose and following the Windows. Still displayed not fixed sadly.

So to clarify I want to go to device manager,
Highlight realtek PCIe and select disable device,
Run the setup on the driver again, select remove and then let it install?

Seems this NIC is a real problem with W10 Creators Update. (No extra NICs around anywhere to swap?) I think a new NIC would resolve the problem of getting online.

But, it may be possible to try that trick (above):

You'd have to revert back to v1607, and disable the NIC in Device Manager when the upgrade is ready to reboot.

    Lot of work.....*Sad

You never did tell me what the situation is with your data and backups...

Sadly no I haven't any NIC's I could swap to. I suppose all that's left to try is reverting back and using that trick when it forces me to update or to do a clean install.

Sorry slipped my mind in all the chaos ://
Can't get a backup drive any time soon probably, maybe second week of February at the earliest.

One thing you could try first: When you uninstall the NIC, there should also be a box you can check to also uninstall the driver. That would give you a clean install of the driver after a reboot - using the new one you just downloaded. I'd try that first before reverting to v1607.

So before I delete the NIC and driver, run the setup for the driver and then reboot?

Or delete the MIC and driver, reboot then run the setup for the new driver

Go into Device Manager, select to uninstall the NIC, and it should have a box that you can check at that point to also uninstall the driver. Let me have a look in my system........

EDIT: I seem to recall that when you get the box that says "warning you are about to uninstall this device from your system" there is also a little box you can check to uninstall the driver as well. Not seeing it on mine, so it may have changed at some point during the Windows 10 endless updates. *Sad

You already tried uninstalling it using the Realtek driver software, and that didn't work, so maybe the only option left is to revert to v1607 and try disabling the NIC just before updating to v1703.

Yes, this is a prime example of the leftover baggage in W7>W10 upgraded systems.
