How to: See if Process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Windows 10


Information A process is an instance of a program that is being executed. Each process running in Windows is assigned a unique decimal number called the process ID, or PID.

If you have a 32-bit Windows installed, processes can only be 32-bit.

If you have a 64-bit Windows installed, processes can be 32-bit or 64-bit.

This tutorial will show you how to see if a running app or process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Windows 10.

CONTENTS:

• Option One: To See if Process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Processes tab in Task Manager
• Option Two: To See if Process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Details tab in Task Manager

OPTION ONE [/i] To See if Process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Processes tab in Task Manager
1. Open Task Manager in more details view.

2. Click/tap on the Processes tab. (see screenshot below)

• If you see (32-bit) in the process name, then the process is 32-bit.
• If you don't see (32-bit) in the process name, then the process is 64-bit.

OPTION TWO [/i] To See if Process is 32-bit or 64-bit in Details tab in Task Manager
1. Open Task Manager in more details view.

2. Click/tap on the Details tab, right click on the column header bar, and click/tap on Select columns. (see screenshot below)



3. Check the Platform box, and click/tap on OK to add this column. (see screenshot below)



4. You can now look in the Platform column in the Details tab to see if a process name is 32-bit or 64-bit. (see screenshot below)

Netbook, 64-bit or 32-bit?

The only real test would be trying 32 bit Windows 10 and seeing if it ends up being faster in practice [a test that would take quite a bit of your limited time].

I get the impression that you are aware that
2GB RAM are required for the 64 bit version whereas a minimum of 1GB is required for the 32 bit version. So your choice is between

• getting the benefit of 64 bit processing but limited by the invalid RAM size, or
  
• foregoing the 64 bit processing benefit in order to fulfil the minimum RAM requirement.

windows 10 32 or 64 bit ?

The responses on this seem to be not totally consistent.

If you are willing to jump through hoops such as installing Windows 10 multiple times, some of which would be clean installs, is it possible to upgrade from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 10 64-bit using the free upgrade?

I'm thinking a process something like:

Step 1: Upgrade from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 10 32-bit.

Step 2: Clean Re-install Windows 10, but opt to install as 64-bit.

If the system architect is 32 bit, then you can’t install 64 bit version of windows in it. I suggest you to run “winver” by pressing Windows + R, and check the version and bit.

There are some games that you can install it in 32 bit as well.

Windows 10 is the free upgrade for those users who has genuine key for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 , normally it doesn't require activation, it's gets activated automatically, in case if you face an issue with activation the you can get back to
us.
