Windows 10: "Seeking Help: BIOS Update Disrupted HP ProBook Functionality"

"Hello! I'm currently using an HP ProBook, and I recently received a BIOS update for my laptop. However, after successfully completing the update, I encountered an issue with my fn-key functionality. Previously, the fn-key would control various functions like adjusting brightness or volume, but post-update, its light remains off and the key itself is unresponsive. Additionally, the keys that were previously used in combination with the fn-key to adjust settings such as volume and brightness now function independently. This change has disrupted my usual workflow, and I'm seeking assistance to

Unable to update BIOS for HP ProBook 6555b

I understand that you are unable to update the BIOS for your HP ProBook 6555b laptop. I have been researching on the specifications of the laptop and I see that the manufacturer provides drivers only upto Windows 7 and the latest BIOS available is
of Nov 30, 2015.



Since the computer is running on Windows 10, there could be compatibility issues with the BIOS update.



You may want to look at the Installation instructions for the BIOS from
HP Notebook System BIOS Update.



However, my recommendation would be to get in touch with the Manufacturer of the computer and check for the available BIOS updates, and check for the specification on alternative steps for BIOS update, as incorrectly updating BIOS might lead to computer
being unusable.



Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

HP today unveils a new brand of affordable notebook PCs that merge business functionality with sophisticated design to stand out from the crowd. The ProBook series joins HP's EliteBook series with a total of five new notebook models which incorporate a choice of merlot or glossy noir finishes, and feature high-definition (HD) LED backlit wide displays ranging from 14-inch to 17.3-inch diagonal sizes. The HP ProBook s-series includes:

• HP ProBook 4410s and HP ProBook 4415s – Feature a 14-inch diagonal 16:9 HD widescreen LED backlight display, integrated optical drive with Blu-ray option and choice of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 or Intel GMA X4500 HD graphics controller. Wireless connectivity includes standard Wi-Fi certified WLAN and optional integrated Bluetooth wireless technology. The notebooks also incorporate an HDMI port to connect to HD displays, and include Intel (4410s) or AMD (4415s) processors to offer a variety of options for mobility and longer battery life.
• HP ProBook 4510s and HP ProBook 4515s – Offer a 15.6-inch diagonal 16:9 HD widescreen LED backlight display. The HP USB 2.0 Docking Station is a compatible accessory for the HP ProBook s-series. Sound Drivers and Switchable Graphics for HP ProBook 4540s on Win 10

The laptop is an Intel Sandy Bridge 6th generation. It probably came with Win 10 on it. Did you go to the HP drivers page and searched for the drivers? hp-probook-4540s It has a recent BIOS F68A (2019). I suggest you update the BIOS to the latest.
