Windows 10: Selected higher resolution for projector and it messed up my laptop

I have a cheap projector that worked really well for my small bedroom until I one day tweaked the resolution from the Windows’ Display Settings. I don’t remember what I selected but it was perhaps the highest one on the list. My screens laptop and projector went black for a couple of seconds and then came back on the projection with a lower resolution but the laptop screen remained off. I used Win+P Fn + F8 and it said your PC can’t project. I restarted the laptop, the display came back for a second until it connected to the projector and then went black again. Projector resolution does not match laptop resolution

I have a Vivitek D832MX projector that I have been using fine with a windows 8 laptop. I just purchased a windows 10 laptop, and the projector resolution is not as high as the laptop resolution. I have tried both "Extend" and "Duplicate" in the monitor
settings but it doesn't want to go higher than a very low resolution on the projector. The laptop resolution is crystal clear. Apparently the projector is not compatible with Windows 10. Any ideas?

 

Laptop max resolution less than projectors

My camera club has just bought a new Projector with a 1920x1200 max resolution, but the clubs Windows laptop screen is only 1920x1080 as is the max graphics card resolution.How can we get the laptop to project at the Projectors max resolution of 1910x1200, or can’t we?

Have seen external usb graphics cards on eBay that go up to far higher resolutions, but don’t know anything about them .. could one of those be the answer?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Upgraded laptop and now the rear projector will not project

New Dell Inspiron Touch screen laptop (HDMI) with Windows 10 will not project on our rear projector (Proxima-VGA) in church. It does project on our front projector (Sanyo-VGA). We ordered from Dell a HDMI to VGA converter. We changed the resolution
to 1024 x 748 which was recommended and even tried a lower one (800 x 600) on the Proxima projector, but still only a black screen comes up. We were getting an "out of range" error message when we tried higher resolutions and even once or twice the projector
worked in the rear, but only for 1 or 2 services. Any suggestions? One of our technician friends thinks it is a Windows 10 issue. Another thinks it may be a resolution problem in the rear projector. It is the oldest projector. We have struggled with
this for a month and are totally frustrated.
