Windows 10: Send and Receive Texts on Windows ?

How can I send and receive text messages on Windows10 without needing to sync to a phone; and also one that doesn't cost a subscription fee ?

Windows Phone is unable to send or receive text message

Hello Zaki,

If you can’t send or receive text messages (SMS), try the steps given on
Lumia troubleshooting and repair. Select the following categories and perform the suggested steps provided. Under "What are
you having a problem with?" choose Messaging > I cannot send or receive text messages.

After each step, check to see if your issue has been fixed. Make sure to select the next options given if the problem persists.

Can't send/receive text message.

Hi Josh,

We would suggest performing the following:

• Soft resetting the phone by holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously until phone vibrates and shuts off, remove SIM card and insert back before turning it ON.
  
• The date and time may be incorrect after restarting your phone. To set the time correctly, go to Settings >
  Time & language > Date & time
• Check the signal strength on the phone screen, and move to an area with better reception.
• Send a text message to your own mobile phone number. This will test your sending and receiving capabilities in one go.
  
• Check the SMS center number (Messaging > ... > settings >
  SMS center number). If the number is missing or you think it is incorrect, confirm the number with your network operator.
• If you have Multi-SIM (two SIM cards with the same mobile phone number), note that some text messages can only be received on your assigned primary SIM card.

If the previous steps do not help, insert a different operator SIM card into your phone to verify that the phone is working properly.

I can receive texts but cannot send any texts.

Does it happen on every text you try to send?

If you are in a different area (so it is a different cell tower) will it work?

What device do you have?

What is the OS?

Have you gone to your cell provider and asked if there is an issue?

Is the number you are trying to send a text to listed as a contact and is the number listed as "mobile" ?

Try this:

Turn off International assist

• Go to Settings > Applications > Phone.
• Turn off International assist.

If that does not work then see if this helps:

Change your mode from LTE & CDMA to CDMA

• Go to Settings.
• Now go to Cellular.
• Find Mode Selection option and change it from LTE & CDMA to CDMA.

After doing this you should be able to send text messages.

The last thing I would suggest is to perform a factory reset

This is the last solution if nothing else works.
