These two updates came this evening KB890830 + KB3081455. The first one (malicious software removal tool) has installed OK but KB3081455 failed and when I clicked 'Retry' it failed again. Anyone else had problems? Will leave it for now and hope things correct themselves eventually. Error code given was 'Error 0x8024a206'.

ETA: Above refers to my non-preview machine - Windows 10.10240
Have not checked on my preview laptop as yet.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Update: I found a fix which sorted out the problem update KB3081455 .....see my later post #45 in this thread. *Smile

As you can see there each is for something different. The Malicious Software Removal Tool, Cumulative update commonly seen, and the third for Windows Defender which doesn't do anything here anyways due to the 3rd party protection being a little overprotective at times! Time to reboot here. See yaa........

  6. You likely won't either. Things are a bit different when running developer builds which are intended mainly for software developers as well as feedback. The 10240 however was a general release that will continue to see active support.

Yeah... Other than Office & Defender, there is no update. But KB890830 consider covers all Windows versions as it stated? Particularly as a security update...

Now this would be the normal Patch Tuesday, I thought that MS was going to push these as they were made?

  10. You never know what they have up their sleeves! *Roflmao2*Thumbs

It's a lot a poker game where you gambit on when something will be out. The first year for any new version is always a bit uncertain? as to when this or that will see a new fix. On one blog I read about some 100 updates that followed SP1 for 7 that were rolled up into a single iso download. No SP2 ever arrived!

With 10 I doubt you will be seeing those again while they came out with a service release where a number of patches were bunched together. The new approach for better or worse?!

  12. Every time I get a KBxxxxxxx update, my Edge "start" page replaces my most frequently visited places (aka Top Sites) with the default Top Sites.. ie. Netflix, Mint, Open Table, Ebay, etc.. Those companies must have paid Microsoft a bundle to be listed. Very aggravating. But since Win10 is free, I have no right to complain.

With Win10 updates not being explained, my Top Sites being hi-jacked in favor of corporations, privacy being eroded, and just an overall feeling of a stripped-down O.S., I'm beginning to wish for the good old days of shelling out a couple hundred dollars for the respect and appreciation that comes with being a paying customer.

Internet Explorer is still available. Simply go into the Program File folder in both the 32bit and 64bit Windows and simply right click on the "iexploer.exe" file to pin to Start and the task bar. Where do you think all the favorites for the Favorite bar in Edge come from?Imported from IE only is how that goes.

As a replacement for IE it's still quite a ways off from being a finished browser now being seen as an introductory. At the present time MS is simply collecting feedback from having people being prompted to it since it comes set as the default in 10. I'm sure that is bound to start seeing a few updates come along over time to get that all set at least for next July when the free upgrade offers expires.

The Defender update for what ever reason caused Norton 360 not to accept updates. Had to uninstall Norton and re-install it. It appears the Defender update caused it to became primary.
You have to appreciate automatic updates.....

  15. A full discription can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3081455 Also with today's update comes many Office 2013 updates. Check your settings to receive these updates. Personally I cannot analyze the update, just letting you know it is out there. Rather large package.
