Windows 10: September 8th 2015 Security Update Release Summary for Windows

For anyone who has had this recent W10 update KB3081455 continually failing to install, I found a fix on the MS Community Forum which has worked for me..............you need to run a Command Prompt (right-click on it to 'Run as Administrator'), type in "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes) and hit 'Enter'. It takes 30 to 40 mins or more to complete and it cleans and repairs various Windows files. Then re-run the update and it should install OK.

When the scan got to 100% the folowing message appeared....

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios

I think the reason the update had failed was possibly because I'd deleted Start Menu links to stuff that I'll never use such as Steps Recorder, Windows Journal and Sticky Notes, etc. as these links were back after running the scan.

It's unbelievable that a major Windows 10 update fails over something so simple!!

 

You likely can fix the SFC failure by running DISM: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html, same as Windows 10. Rerun SFC to complete.

 

Here I first had things set to automatic but found that could get in the way when out of nowhere and right while I was in the middle of something "system restarting"?! *Mad Afterwards I went right back in and solved that with the "Notify to schedule restart" setting.

As for manual checks the last being 8:32am thursday morning followed by just checking again showing everything is upto date.
