This issue might occur due to a corrupted/damaged keyboard driver. Let us try to resolve the issue by running the
hardware & devices troubleshooter. To do this, you may follow the steps below:

  Press Windows key, and type
  troubleshoot; then, hit Enter.
  
• 
  Under Find and fix other problems section, select
  Hardware & devices; then, click the Run the troubleshooter
  button.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Touchpad and keyboard malfunctioning

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it 3x and am still having difficulty wim (example of typed letters not showing up) with my keyboard and touch pad. some things are impossible to accomplish, such as choosing an item with my touchpad.

I suggest you to connect an external keyboard and check if the issue persists or not.
