  1. Serious wifi adapter issues

So this started this morning and I'm not sure what to do. This is a brand new computer that I've only had for roughly a week and already I'm having issues I shouldn't be having. In the beginning it was pretty minor, high ping in just one particular game and no others that I played weird, fixed w/ a vpn until it somehow fixed itself And then I started to notice something incredibly unusual about my Steam downloads, and bear in mind I ran through every possible fix on Steam side and nothing fixed it. I was having abysmally slow install/download speeds despite having the best connection in the

  2. Recommendation for WiFi usb / card

If you have a desktop computer I would STRONGLY suggest a PCIe adapter rather than a USB adapter if you go with WiFi 6. The only USB WiFi adapters that I have seen thus far use a Realtek chipset which is reported to have some serious flaws. In my own personal experience, I have tried 2 of these and returned both, getting performance worse than other WiFi 5 adapters and constant disconnects even 10 feet from my WiFi router.

If you go with a USB adapter, I would suggest a quality WiFi 5 adapter.

One more note: Should you decide to go with a WiFi 6 PCIe adapter, I would suggest a WiFi 6e model. They actually cost no more, and they are one step up just in case you ever go to a WiFi 6e router.

  3. Wifi serious issue....

    Hi Garrett,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

In regards to the issue, I require additional information to make sure that helps us to resolve the issue easily:

    • I would like to know if you are able to find the “Wireless Network Card” device in the “Device Manager”. If yes, then what is the
      status of the device?

    • Do you get any exclamation mark in device manager under network adaptor?
You can check the exclamation Mark by going to Device manager:

    • Press Windows + X key together and select Device Manager.
    • Locate the Network adapter and expand the driver icon.
    • Look for Wireless driver. Do you see any exclamation Mark?

Let’s try updating the driver for the mouse and keyboard and verify the results. Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows and X key together and select
      Device Manager.
    • Locate the Network adapter icon. Right click on the driver icon.
    • Select Update driver software.
    • Select "browse my computer for a driver software".
    • Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.
    • Select the driver option according your device model and installed.
    • If this does not work, follow the steps from ‘1 to ‘3 and select “Search automatically for the updated driver”.
    • Choose the same steps to update the driver for keyboard as well.
If issue still persists, I would suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it works.

Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

    • Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
    • Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows operating system from the drop down.
    • Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.
You can also follow the steps to reset Winsock. Then you can try release and renew IP address.

    • Windows + X and select Open the Command prompt with Admin
    • enter this command netsh winsock reset
    • restart the computer:

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks.

  4. Serious wifi adapter issues

    WiFi Adapter question

To be honest, I keep losing my wifi connection and Im almost positive its not due to my internet connection or Router or anything like that. VERY often, everyday, all day it keeps happening. The troubleshooter always resolves it by "reset wifi-adapter" (I believe this is the step it takes that resolves the problem) before it happens again anyways.

    Its driving me nuts !

Most time when it suddenly goes out (the connection) all the networks that should be in "show available networks" or all but the one I was connected to, disappear. I run the troubleshooter and it ends in resetting the wifi adapter. And it works. 10 minutes later, it happens again. Im trying to pin down the problem here.

    Thank you for your help.
