Windows 10: server 2016 same error as windows10

we had a power surge with all systems flicker, desktop and server.


desktops rebooted server did not and wouldn't refresh


I went through this process

on the command line I followed the directions


and the result was


X: \windows\system32>cd %windir%\system32\config


X: \windows\system32\config>ren system system.001


X: \windows\system32\config>ren software software.001

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process


X: \windows\system32\config>


any suggestions?


I am not sure if I have posted this in correct area, I am lost

What will happen on Jan 20, 2016?


Strollin: I understand your suggestion, but that means I'll have to re-install all my sofftware etc. again. This is not an enticing thought at all.

LCDR: I tried the old activation code I used before - it is the same on you posted.

I tried the steps listed at the WinAero site. Last one failed because it said the server could not be located. But I did get the Jan 20, 2016 date back. So that's something.

What are the steps to create nano server with bare metal process.

Sorry if I did not make it clear - that is an illegal activation method - that xspace server must have been taken down by MS.
