Windows 10: Server activity suggests Windows 11 version 23H2 is about to be released

Microsoft has yet to reveal the official release date for the 2023 feature update for its Windows 11 operating system. It is quite possible that the announcement will once again coincide with the actual release of the new Windows 11 version. If true, it would give users and administrators little preparation time.

Last month, Microsoft released Moment 4 for Windows 11. It did so in a way that caused quite a bit of confusion. Several sites reported that this was the feature update, but it was not.

Moment 4 for Windows 11 introduced Windows Copilot, an AI tool. It is Bing Chat with a little bit of basic Windows controlling functionality sprinkled on top. Nothing major at this stage, but Microsoft has plans to improve it apparently. For now, you may want to disable Windows Copilot.

Other features included the new Windows Backup app and the new Outlook for Windows. Both apps have not received favorable reviews so far. File Explorer supports extracting other archive formats, which is a useful feature.

Any features left for Windows 11 version 23H2?


With these features already introduced in the Moment 4 update, Windows 11 users and administrators may wonder what the new feature update will bring. The first feature update for Windows 11, released in 2022, introduced lots of changes and improvements to Windows 11.

The new features and improvements were enough to release them as a 9-part series. Big new features included an updated Task Manager with dark mode support, return of Start Menu folders and introduction of Start Menu layouts, a new Microsoft Family app for parental controls, Advanced Sharing settings for Networks, the option to uninstall updates from the Settings app and more.

Clearly, Windows 11 version 23H2 will be a smaller update. One of the main reasons for that is that Microsoft introduced Moment updates after the release of Windows 11 version 22H2 in 2022. These smaller updates add features to Windows 11 regularly.

Many of the features that were rumored to be included in the Windows 11 2023 Update were already introduced in Moment 4. New features will likely include Dev Drive and Dev Home. Dev Drive enables developers to create development-optimized volumes on Windows 11 using ReFS. Dev Home is designed as a helper app for developers. It helps streamline workflows and may connect to GitHub.

What we know

Windows 11 version 23H2 will be supported for 2 years on consumer devices. The release version of Windows 11 is no longer supported already, and the current version, 22H2, will run out of support next year.

Most Windows 11 administrators and users may want to wait with the installation of the new feature update. Administrators should keep an eye on the Windows 11 release information website. While Version 23H2 is not listed there yet, it will be added once it is released. Microsoft lists known issues and other information on the page.

Microsoft could release Windows 11 version 23H2 as early as tomorrow as part of the October 2023 Preview updates for Windows 11.

So, with Windows 11 23H2 in Fall 2023, will not be Windows 10 23H2, but instead something like Windows 10 22H2v3, that’s correct?

 

I am not getting windows 11 23h2 update. Why is it not coming up. Can you fix this?

At the moment Windows 11 23H2 is released for Insiders in Release preview channel and commercial users.

For normal users it will start rolling out later this year via Widows Update.
