Windows 10: Server connection issues: pinging shows frequent “request timed out” responses and latency...

I'm running into increasing issues with lag and disconnects in online games lately, and I was instructed to try a series of ping tests on some different servers. In every case, I'm getting "request timed out" responses very frequently, often followed by brief but significant spikes in response times. It was suggested that I use a VPN, which helped a lot at first it decreased the time outs to every 20 minutes or so, but is now behaving just like the non-VPN connection.

I've tried the "reset your network settings" option in Windows, as well as using the ipconfig release, renew, and flushdns functions. The problem seems to be getting worse instead of better, and neither the server support teams nor my ISP have been much help. What more can I do to limit or eliminate these disconnects?

Hello JOHNLEIBNITZER, I am Andrew an independent advisor. What did you ping to get this latency? Is your network wired or wireless?

Latency can come from MANY sources, even outside your house out of your control. The internet provider could have a busy network and cause this latency. We can do some a few things in your control to help but may not improve the latency if its out of your control.
46ms ping is not all that bad actually. For example, my home network is 48ms at this time when pinging google.com.

Open the command prompt and enter ping google.com check the results. To try to help you can type ipconfig /flushdns in the command. Unplug the power from the router and your ISPs modem to reboot them. Then ping google.com again.

If you see no improvement as I said it could very well be out of your control what is causing the latency.

I don't play, but if you are getting a slow response in the game you should be pinging the server your game uses. The round trip time consists of two components, the routing that connects you to the server and the time it takes the serve to respond to a ping request. Tracert is another command you can try that shows you the routing and the time of each step.

For what I can gather from Google the main complaint is a slow menu. There are many threads about that on the Battlefield forum that may help. Here's one...
