tl;dr: Services and Controller app is taking 10~50% of CPU (video recording) and Windows update is a highly suspected culprit

    Hi guys,

After the Windows update, "Services and Controller app" process is constantly taking 10~50% of my CPU. It goes up and down at the frequency of 5~6s for like more than 2 hours so I'm pretty sure it's not something temporary.

As always, I can google Microsoft forum's disappointing thread where a bunch of people are reporting the same symptom but the "moderator" just gives out a casual answer to run antivirus, clean boot, etc.

I tried to dig into the issue by monitoring Process Explorer but it seems that none of the children processes shown under services.exe is the cause. Most of the processes take <0.01 of CPU so they don't really add up to 50.0%.

Actually, here's my video recording of the symptom.

I suspect the recent Windows update to be a culprit. Anyone else having this issue?

For additional information, here's some of the things I've done that might have caused this:

    - Installed Docker (Thus, Hyper-V is on.)

    - Installed MySQL

    - I have a low-end PC. (Intel i3-6100 CPU, 16gb RAM, has SSD, no GPU)

    - Current Windows version:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

    OS Version: 10.0.18363 N/A Build 18363

wsappx is using 50% of the CPU

    Hi,

Wsappx is a Windows Store program that is trawling your computer for all installed apps and telling Microsoft what programs you have, what versions etc. If it’s using more than 50% of your CPU and causes trouble on your
device, we would recommend that you disable it. You may follow these steps:

    • Go to Control Panel.
    • Look for Administrative Tools.
    • Select Computer Management then Services, you will see this entry:

Windows Store Service (WSService) "Provides infrastructure..." [Status is blank] "Manual (Trigger Start)" "Local System"
    • Now you may disable it.

Feel free to contact us if you have further inquiries.

    Windows 10 Update Orchestrator Service

found similar error in the 'System' log, during the restart after installing the update, is this normal for windows 10? Does everyone faced such thing? The update seems to have settled, in the status I've see 'Success', there seem to be no other errors.

The "Update Orchestrator Service" service is turned off due to an error
The return from the operation was due to the timeout.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To perform a clean boot on the computer refer to the article

How to perform a clean boot in Windows
    .

If performing a clean boot fixes the issue then, please refer to the section
How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot
to check which program is causing the issue.

Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.

In order to get clarity and to assist you further, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • Was there a major change or an update on your system, prior to which you weren't facing this issue?
