  1. services.exe takes up 90% CPU on Windows 10

I already found similar questions but they are several years old and referred to older versions of Windows.

So: what can I do if services.exe takes up 90% CPU on Windows 10?

It does it every time I start Windows.

I cannot stop the process because it is a system file.

    Antivirus finds no virus.

    :)

Windows Audio is utilizing too much of my CPU.

    Hi James,

Corrupted audio driver is one of the possible reasons why you are having a 90% CPU usage for Windows Audio Service. For us to assist you better, kindly answer the following questions:

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Have you tried to uninstall the audio driver and install the latest version of it?

    Regards.

Windows Modules Installer taking 90% CPU

    Hi,

Windows Modules Installer is a part of Windows Update Service that enables installation, modification, and removal of Windows updates and optional components.

If Windows is checking for updates, it is normal that this process will take some CPU usage.

For us to better assist you, we'd like to know if Windows Modules Installer is
having 90% CPU usage for a straight 24 hour period. If not, and it is just utilizing CPU usage for a minute or an hour, it may not be an indication of high CPU usage.

If yes, try to set Windows Update into manual mode:

    • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Locate and double-click Windows Modules Installer.
    • Under Startup type, select Manual, click
      Apply, then OK.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.
