    12. Do step 13 (skip) or step 14 (set up) below depending on if you want set up your room boundary or not.

*note A boundary defines the area in which you can move around while you're wearing your Windows Mixed Reality immersive headset. Because you can't see your surroundings while you're using your headset, it's important to create a boundary to help you avoid obstacles. The boundary looks like a white outline inside mixed reality, and appears when you come close to it. When you see it, slow your movements, and avoid crossing the boundary or extending your limbs beyond it.

The area inside the boundary should be free of furniture and other obstacles, including the area above you (think about low-hanging light fixtures or ceiling fans). This way, you'll know that as long as you stay inside the boundary, you won't bump into or trip over anything.

*tip If you choose not to create a boundary during setup, you can create a boundary at any time.

    13. To Skip Set Up Room Boundary
*note If you choose "Seated and standing,", you'll be using your headset without a boundary. This means you'll need to stay in one spot when using the headset, so that you can avoid physical obstacles and tripping hazards.
    A) Click/tap on Set me up for seated and standing. (see screenshot below)

    B) Click/tap on I'm sure to confirm. (see screenshot below)

    D) Go to step 15.

    14. To Set Up Room Boundary
*note If you choose "All experiences," you'll set up a boundary, and will be able to use apps and experiences that work with a boundary as well as those that don't require one.
    A) Click/tap on Set me up for all experiences. (see screenshot below)

Set Up Windows Mixed Reality Headset in Windows 10 [IMG]

    B) Clear some space in your room for running mixed reality (e.g. clear some floor space and move your chair to the side of the room). We recommend you at clear at least 5 foot x 7 foot (1.5 meters x 2 meters) of space for mixed reality, and click/tap on Next when ready to continue. (see screenshot below)

    F) Go to step 15.

    18. Unless you purchased a Samsung HMD Odyssey (which has integrated AKG headphones and an integrated dual microphone array), you will need to get an audio headset (that has both microphone and headphones) and plug that into your headset's 3.5mm audio jack. The 3.5mm audio jack for your headset will - depending on the headset model - be located either on the underside of the headset visor or at the end of a short audio cable coming out of the headset visor.

    19. After finishing setup, the Mixed Reality Portal app should launch an immersive experience in your HMD called Learn Mixed Reality that will teach you how to use Windows Mixed Reality. Gaze at the gem in the loading screen to get started. You should hear Cortana's voice in your headset giving you instructions on what to do next. (see screenshot below)

    20. Entering mixed reality a second time is as easy as putting the headset back on while its connected to your PC. You can also launch the Mixed Reality Portal app manually by opening it from the Start menu. Input and audio will route automatically to the headset when you put it on, or you can trigger this manually by pressing Windows + Y on your keyboard.

    21. You will now have a new Settings. (see screenshot below)

  2. Samsung's Odyssey Headset is New Leader in Windows Mixed Reality

Last week, images of Samsung's upcoming Windows Mixed Reality headset known as Odyssey were leaked to the Internet. Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed these leaks by listing the headset for preorder on their own store with product images, as well as a list of specifications that indicate the Oddysey offers superior hardware and features compared to its competition. The new headset boasts OLED displays with a resolution of 1440x1600 per eye, higher than other Windows Mixed Reality headsets as well as both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. In addition to the extra pixels to combat the screen-door effect commonly noticed in VR headsets, the OLED technology is expected to provide improved low persistence, resulting in a sharper image and less blurring with movement compared to LCD-based headsets. In addition, Odyssey is the first Windows Mixed Reality headset to feature built-in audio in the form of integrated headphones. These improvements, combined with hardware interpupillary distance adjustment and a wider field of view (up to 110°) on par with the Vive and Rift, help it stand out from its direct competitors.

Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality platform is set to be released alongside the Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update on October 17th, and provides a software platform for immersive virtual reality and augmented reality headsets from various manufacturers including Samsung, Dell, Acer, HP, and Lenovo, as well as Microsoft's own HoloLens project. These headsets will come at various price points ranging from $399 to $599 USD. Microsoft's listing puts the Samsung Odyssey's price at $500 USD including motion controllers, which interestingly puts the headset in competition with the Oculus Rift, despite Samsung's partnership with Oculus on the mobile-powered Gear VR. Microsoft has since taken down the listing, but the page is archived.

  3. Mixed Reality Headset not recognized...

    Hi Leo,

Reinstalling Windows 10, installing the latest updates for Windows and drivers should resolve most issues experienced on Windows.

Since your PC couldn't make the headset work even after reinstalling Windows 10, it is possible that there is something on your hardware that won't make the headset work.

In the meantime, you may refer to the Windows Mixed Reality: Enthusiast's Guide for
troubleshooting steps that may possibly resolve the issue, or you may use your headset
    using your laptop.

Let me know if you have further queries.

    Regards.

    Hi,

Yes, you're correct. The Windows Mixed Reality simulator allows you to test mixed reality apps on your PC even if you don't have an immersive headset. If you are experiencing issues with turning on simulation, maybe you haven't set it up yet. Follow the
steps below on how to get started with the Windows Mixed Reality simulator:

    • Click on Get started.
    • Click on I agree to accept the agreement.
    • To proceed through setup, click on Set up for simulation (for developers).
    • Click on Set up to confirm your choice.

Once you have set that up, click on the For developers button on the left side of the Mixed Reality Portal, and you should now be able to turn the Simulation toggle switch to
    On.

Let us know how it turns out.
