Windows 10: Setting an HP printer to print double sided as default in all programs

I am trying to find how I can set certain printer settings such as double side as the default for the printer when using all programs Office, email, etc.I've gone into Settings>Printers and Scanners, then chose my HP printer that is currently my default printer, then chose Manage. I've made the changes, then clicked Apply. There seems to be no "use as default" in the Preferences dialog box. While those preferences remain in the Printer Settings, it does not carry across to any programs that I use. Seems to be that I should be able to do this.Thanks, Carol

separate "devices" for single-sided and double-sided printing?

Is there a way to have separate "devices" for a printer that can do single-sided or double-sided printing?

I have an HP 401dn laser printer which does double-sided printing very nicely. MS Office has print dialogs that allow me to choose double-sided printing, but almost every other program does not. So I'm forced to select Printer Properties and select double-sided printing.

It depends on whether your printer supports double sided printing, choose to print your document, then chose Printer Properties, check on the different tabs on the resulting dialog for Duplex Printing, or double sided printing, if you do not find that, then
your printer may not support double sided printing

What is the Make and exact Model No. of your printer I will check if your printer supports double sided printing for you . . .
