Windows 10: Setting "default app" doesn't work, it opens with the wrong program

    Setting "default app" doesn't work, it opens with the wrong program


    I want my .pdf to be opened with my Adobe Acrobat Pro, and it is set as well in the default app settings, but it still opens them with Adobe Reader.

    Even when I go to the properties and change the program to the exe file in the folder - it still uses the wrong program.


    How to change this problem?

    To show you how this looks like I added a screenshot. It shows the right program as a default but executes it all wrong or whatever.



    (Yes uninstalling Adobe Reader works, but I still need both programs, especially if I have to check for digital signations.)

    And what you can see as well is that the translation is a mess ! The properties are mostly in English, but at the date the days are written in German.

    Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


    Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

    I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

    Might be helpful to list what i've done Setting "default app" doesn't work, it opens with the wrong program :) I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

    I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

    Can't change default program to open files.


    Hi,

    I'm trying to change the default program for .dwg files from Autocad to Draftsight.

    I already tried:

    • right click > open with > choose another app > always use this app. The file opens in Draftsight without problems, but it still opens with Autocad the next time you double click a dwg file.
    • settings > apps > default apps > choose default apps by file type. This also does not change the default method to Draftsight.

    When I type assoc .dwg in command prompt, it shows ".dwg=DraftSight.Drawing"

    I see some suggestions to try using the old interface through control panel, but it seems like control panel routes to the new interface.

    I also tried changing the association for .txt files from notepad to notepad++ and it doesn't work either.

    Any ideas?

    1. Which update was installed on the computer?


    There are few reasons that can be considered as to why you are having issues with preferred default applications on the device. It can be because of an update that was installed on the computer. Kindly follow the below steps and
    make the necessary changes to resolve the issue.



    Step 1: Change default apps through control Panel.

    • Open Control Panel by typing Control Panel in Start menu and then press
      Enter key.
    • Change the Control Panel View by to Small icons. Click
      Default Programs to open Default Programs window.
    • Select the first option- Set your default programs.
    • In the left-pane, select your web browser or any other program that you want to set as your default program.
    • Once you select a program or app, you will see
      Set this program as default       option on the right-side. Click set this program as default option to set it as default.

    Step 2: To choose default apps by File type in Settings.

    • Open Settings > Click on
      Apps       > Select Default apps from the left pane.
    • Click on Choose default apps by file type option from the bottom of the right pane.
    • Click on Choose a default option and choose an app to always open the file type with by default.

    Additional Information: You may have to go through the article on

    Make Acrobat or Reader the default owner of PDF files on Windows 10    .
