Setting different Backgrounds for Dual Monitors in Windows 10

This worked for the first time, and then I changed my backgrounds, but what happened kinda defeated the purpose of this. The pictures cycled through each other, so they would change back and forth because it is a theme. I don't know why this is happening to me only. But I would like some help with this auto cycle problem.

It looks like the only option for multiple images is a slide show. I set my change time to 1 day. I can then use Next background to switch it back.

Naw, OP is just confused and is (ab)using) Slideshow to set Single Picture mode. Cyberghost's post here:

    * Setting different Backgrounds for Dual Monitors in Windows 10

lets you stay out of Slideshow mode but still set a picture for monitor via right-clicking on the particular images you want in that interface.

They also added this feature to the 'normal' Settings page in Windows Insider beta build 10525.

I was there and used that panel, but now I realize the reason I wasn't getting the different monitor choices when right-clicking is because I had two images selected. After clearing the selections I was then able to get the monitor selection when right-clicking on an image. Thanks!

  5. There is no option for setting image for either monitor. Right-clicking brings up "Set as slideshow". The "Shuffle" setting is UNchecked. "Change pictures every 30 minutes" is selected, and there is no "Off" selection, that is the default.
I saw something on another website for editing the registry, I will have to try that.

To summarize, I selected 2 images in the same folder and right-clicked and set as background. Now I have 2 monitors with separate backgrounds. Perfect, except they keep changing back and forth. I want to "freeze" them as the background for that monitor specifically, as others have stated.

  6. Nope, does not work. Background images still switch. There is no right-click option to set monitor. Right clicking the images brings up "set as slideshow" popup, nothing else.

***Just a thought, maybe it's the difference between laptop and desktop perhaps? I am using a laptop with a second monitor.***

  7. THANK YOU! Here is the solution to no option for separate monitors in the control panel settings..
NOW the dropdown menu that says "30 minutes" by default is grayed out.

Ok, apparently, you have to RE-do the whole WINDOWS+R then enter "control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper" EVERY TIME you unplug the external monitor and plug it back in.
But THEN it works... until the next time...

Hmm, his looks like a new feature.

I right-click on the desktop and select Personalize. There's a Background option drop-down with three selections: Picture, Solid Color, and Slide Show. Selecting Picture shows some pictures and a Browse option. If I right-click on a displayed image I can set for all monitors or either of the monitors. Looks like they're listening ...

  11. Can confirm that this works for me, as does the "WINKEY + R control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper" method to access the old style Desktop Personalization dialog.

In both instances I'm able to right click on an image and choose "Set on monitor 1" or "Set on monitor 2".

    Useful thread! Thanks to all.
