Windows 10: Setting Movies and TV as a default media player

Hello!I would like to use Movies and TV as a default media player especially for .mp4 and .mov files but there seems no option including Movies and TV. Whats the solution?

Window Media Player and Movies & TV arent working with internet conection

I realize that WMP and M& TV app is not working on your PC. I will try to help you with this issue.

As Windows Media Player is not able to access the file, suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if that helps. Follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Troubleshooting and click on View all.
  

Select “Windows Media Player Settings” troubleshooter and run it to check if that helps.

Further, you may also take ownership of the file to check if that helps.

Follow these steps:

• 
  Right click the file and select Properties.
  
• 
  Click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  
• 
  Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click Check Names.
  

Note: The account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.

• 
  Click OK.
  
• 
  If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the “Replace owner on sub-containers and objects” check box.
  
• 
  Click OK.

The new Media Player is set to the default media player automatically. How do I disable this?

I understand that you want to set "Movies and TV" as the default player. But "Media Player" is set as the default player.I would very much like to help you effectively, but I may not be able to give you better advice due to the less information I know. If it is convenient for you, can you share the following information with me:

• You mentioned to change the default player for MP4 files in Settings - Default Application. Did you change the default player here, but "Media Player" is automatically set as the default player again?
  
• Have you tried to right-click the MP4 file, open it in "Open as - Other Apps", then select "Movies and TV", tick "Always open with this app" and click OK?
  
• How long does it take for "Media Player" to be set as the default player after you set "Movies and TV" as the default player?
  

If you don't use "Media Player", you can try uninstalling it in Settings - Applications to see how the problem behaves.

If the problem occurs some time after you changed "Movies and TV" as the default player, it may also be the interference of third-party software. Sometimes some third party software can tamper with the default player settings. I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

If the problem does not appear after a clean start, the error report is related to third party software. (If you have third party protection software installed, such as 360, McAfee etc., please uninstall the third party protection software before a clean start)

No option to set default for media players

Just recently (I think there was an update) there stopped being an option to set a media file type (AVI, WAV, etc)) to open with a certain media player. If I right clicked on a video and selected "open with" I would get a list of my players and an option to always use the player I chose as the default app for that file type. Now that option is gone and everything is defaulted to a windows app "Movies and TV" which cant play .mkv files. So I have to keep selecting the player to use rather than just set it as the default for mkv files. Why did they change this and can I change it back? Thanks
