Windows 10: Setting static ip fails to connect to wifi

Windows 10 pro - 20H2 os build: 19042.685


I need to set my IP to 10.17.10.100/255.255.255.0 so other computers can always locate it.


In the Settings window, I change the IP setting from dynamic to manual and set the

IP address: 10.17.10.100

Subnet prefix length: 24 why use length over mask?

Gateway 10.17.10.1

DNS: 10.17.10.1


With these settings, I am unable to make a wifi connection, I get No Internet. I have forced the IP assignment in the router based on the mac address, but I need to have both the 2.4 and the 5 GHZ adapters set to xxxxx.100 - whichever network is used. I would also like to use the random hardware address feature, but if assigning IP address by mac in the router, then this is not possible.


Any thoughts on why setting the static IP in the Wifi Setting is not working for me?

IP Connect to Static IP

I have an A-V device with a static IP address. With my XP-Pro laptop, I can connect fine, but with my new laptop running WIN10Pro, I can't seem to find the right combination of settings to"see" the device. The static IP allows control of the A-V device's app., with the app. showing when it "see's" the app. on the XP machine, but nothing I do let's that same IP address show up on the WIN10 machine. Can anyone suggest some possible fixes ?

Follow the steps below and check if the features to apply static IP is available in your device.

• Navigate to settings.
• Search or navigate to “Wi-Fi”.
• Scroll all the way down and tap “static ip”.
• Turn on “Configure network settings manually”.
• Key in the IP address, subnet mask and other details

Note: Do remember that your router / DHCP should support allocating static IP for this feature to work.

If the above feature is not available then your model may not support the same.
